Principal role “Pang”, Turandot, Grimeborn Festival
23, 24, 25, 26 August 2023

Together with The Opera Makers and Ellandar Productions, Grimeborn Festival present Turandot by Puccini at the Arcola Theatre. This reimagining of the opera confronts the oriental tropes head on with a completely East Asian Heritage cast. This producion explores the toxicity of online obsession in the face of human tragedy.

Role of “Fiskrenserska”, Herr Arnes Penningar
Folkoperan, Stockholm
September-November 2024


Comissioned opera based on Swedish author and first female Nobel prize in literature winner, Selma Lagerlöf. Libretto by Sara Bergmark Elfgren and music by Peter Nordahl depicts a gothic story about sisterhood, revenge and dangerous first love.

ABOUT AINA


Described as possessing a warm and vibrant sound and praised for her elegant yet expressive and playful interpretation, Swedish-Japanese mezzo-soprano Aina Miyagi Magnell is currently in her second year of Masters at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since coming to London in 2018 Aina has been part of several opera productions including singing the role of Hänsel in “Hänsel and Gretel”, Octavian in “Die Rosenkavalier” and Siebel in “Faust” (Guildhall Scenes), Der Boy in Kurt Weill’s “Der Zar lässt sich photohraphieren” (Silk Street Theatre) and Prince Orlovsky in “Die Fledermaus” (Silk Street Music Hall).

Her recent engagements include singing the role of Second Lady in “Zauberflöte” with Nevill Holt Festival’s summer season 2024,  thereafter Aina is singing with the Stockholm Volksoper, Sweden, in their commissioned opera “Herr Arnes Pennigar” premiering in September 2024.

Aina sang the role of Pang in Puccini’s “Turandot” with Grimeborn Festival (nominated for Best Opera Production at the Offies Awards 2023) and is currently a Josephine Baker Trust artist, part of Pegasus Opera Company’s Mentorship Programme as well as Opera Studio Leipzig Autumn Seminar Season 2023. She is a keen recital and oratorio singer, appearing in venues across UK, Germany and Sweden.
